Implies joint participation of the parties in reaching an outcome, and also assumes that the outcome is satisfactory enough that parties will implement the agreement. Satisfaction generally comes fom interest-based methods which resolve differences by reconcling interests. But here’s where things get tricky because interest-based approaches to conflict resolution are commonly juxtaposed to rights-based and power-based approaches… also to conflict resolution. For conflict handling purposes, the use of rights and power are unlikely to reconcle interests. So… when you hear the terms rights and power-based approaches to conflict resolution, it really means ways to end a conflict. Labelong that as conflict management, settlement, or termination creates different terminological challenges, however, so many simply say conflict resolution and hope context makes the meaning clear.
