One of three parts of Wayfinding, navigation refers to the direction of travel you’ll take. To navigate, literally, is to shoot a bearing between your current position and a desired future position. A bearing is a line with a number on it, such as 90o or three o’clock – which would be your direction of travel. To navigate at work is to determine the direction you want to take something – a task, project, assignment, team, client relationship. Something you intend to move from a current undesired condition to a future desired condition. Navigation is often used to mean getting oriented (find your bearings) or routefinding (here’s how we’ll navigate this), which confuses the other two parts of Wayfinding.
