Felt experience is the body’s predictive signal about a situation, to prepare you to act. Its mechanism is physiological – chemical, hormonal, autonomic. Its function is evaluative, interpretive. It’s one of the ways we ascribe meaning to things in our enironment like a comment, a look, a memo, a budget cut. Felt experience arrives before conscious thought – it’s the raw material we put words on.
My source for information on Felt Experience is Eugene Gendlin’s “Focusing.” You can also check out The International Focusing Institute at https://focusing.org/ Separately, I’ll compare Focusing to other theories of experience, growth, and therapy to see what they tell us about handling collaboration and conflict.
