Let's Unthink This. And Rethink It.

Let’s unthink and rethink something about handling work collaboration and conflict, and let’s start with assumptions. They’re everywhere, and they’re always at work.

Viewing collaboration and conflict as problems to be solved, situations to fix, is an assumption. Thinking that techniques do the solving and fixing is an assumption.

Assumptions aren’t wrong, exactly. They leave things out. Unthinking loosens their grip. Rethinking sees what was missed.

It sees collaboration and conflict as systems to be navigated, not problems to be solved. It sees handling as relational, not transactional – something you and colleagues do, not a technique you apply.

How do we do this? Where others focus on situations and what to say, I focus on you in situations – and what to see. When you see clearly, you won’t wonder what to say.

But for this to work, you need to be in for something different. I can’t be the expert dispensing advice. You can’t be the student taking it in. You’re the expert in you. You’re the student, learning you. I’m the guide. My promise is to show you where to look. Your promise is to look.

Assumptions aren’t wrong, exactly, but they leave things out. Unthinking loosens their grip. Rethinking sees what was missed.

Are collaboration and conflict problems to be solved? Yes. but they're also systems to be navigated. That means handling is relational, not just transactional. It's something you and colleagues do, not techniques you apply.

How do you do this? Where others focus on situations and what to say, you'll focus on what you see. When you see clearly, you won’t wonder what to say.

But for this to work, you need to be up for something different. I won't be the expert dispensing advice. You won't be the student taking it in. You’ll be the expert in you. You’ll be the student, learning you. I’ll be the guide. My promise is to show you where to look. Your promise is to look.
