Originally developed for physical spaces \u2013 cities, airports, parks, buildings \u2013 it describes how people locate themselves, determine where they\u2019re headed, and find a route to get there. It has three parts: orientation (locate and confirm current position), navigation (locate and confirm future position), and routefinding (choose and travel a route from among options, re-locating and re-confirming as you go).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wayfinding is the organizing metaphor for this framework because collaboration and conflict are genuinely unfamiliar terrain \u2013 not problems with known solutions, but systems requiring orientation, navigation, and continuous routefinding. You don\u2019t handle them better by following turn-by-turn directions, as if a collaboration or conflict GPS could get you there.
